The A.T. Guide is the most innovative and up-to-date full trail handbook. Every year, mileage changes, every item is reviewed, and additional detail is provided wherever possible.
What's new in the 2016 edition?
The 2016 edition of The A.T. Guide has the same format and features that have made it the most popular guidebook ever used on the Appalachian Trail. It features an elevation profile of the entire trail, uniquely presented such that all landmarks align with the profile. Roughly half of the pages in the book are devoted to trail data, and about half covers what services are available in trail towns. The material is kept in sync, so town information is usually only a page turn away from the related trail data.
The big news in 2016 is that The A.T. Guide is smaller and lighter! And there is no catch. This book contains more information, yet the price is the same, and the print size is the same, with a nicely-readable font used everywhere in the book.
The 2016 edition will be one-half inch shorter and will weigh less than 8 ounces. The book retains all of its features, and actually contains a longer elevation profile, which has been refined for greater accuracy and incorporates recent reroutes. New landmarks have been added. Five new town and area maps are included, so there are now 90 such maps in the book. The trail town information presented in the guide has also been expanded. Dozens of businesses have been added and hundreds of businesses have provided important new details about prices and policies. This is the most thoroughly researched and re-worked edition of The A.T. Guide.
